Water Damage Restoration in Lisle, IL

Lisle is a DuPage County village of about 24,200 people on Naperville's eastern edge, home to the Morton Arboretum. Most of the village lies in the watershed of the East Branch of the DuPage River, and part of Lisle even falls inside Naperville's District 203 school boundaries.

What should I do first if my Lisle home has water damage?

Stay away from water near electricity, stop the source if you can, photograph the damage and call a water damage restoration company. Press 1 on our line and we connect you with a local one.

  1. Safety first. The CDC says never to turn power on or off while standing in water. If water reaches outlets or the panel, stay out.
  2. Stop the water. Main shutoff for a pipe or appliance. For a sewer backup, stop using water inside.
  3. Document. Photos and video of everything before cleanup.
  4. Call. Your insurer, and a restoration company to start drying.

Does Lisle help pay to prevent sewer backups?

Yes. The Village of Lisle splits the cost 50-50 on the first $5,000 of installing an overhead sewer or another backup prevention device, up to $2,500, for village sewer customers who have had sanitary sewer backups.

Per the village, you must submit two estimates and the program application before work starts, get the building permit, and send proof of payment before reimbursement. The village also notes that DuPage County may cost-share for homes connected directly to a DuPage County sanitary sewer. Ask before you hire anyone, because the paperwork comes first.

What do I do during a sewer backup in Lisle?

Stop using water in the house, keep away from the sewage and contact your sewer provider to check the public line. If only one drain is backing up while the others work, it is likely a clog in your own plumbing and a job for a plumber.

Not every Lisle home is on the same sewer system, which is why the village mentions DuPage County's sanitary district separately. Your sewer bill shows who your provider is. After the backup stops, the cleanup is Category 3 work. See sewer backup cleanup.

Does the East Branch DuPage River flood Lisle?

Most of Lisle drains to the East Branch DuPage River, and in April 2013 that river set a record crest downstream at Bolingbrook. Homes near the river and its tributaries can face surface flooding, which a standard homeowners policy does not cover.

The Illinois Department of Insurance says standard homeowners policies do not cover flood. Flood coverage is a separate policy, and FEMA says NFIP policies typically take 30 days to start. Sewer backups need a backup endorsement. See our Illinois insurance guide.

How soon does drying need to start?

Within 24 to 48 hours, according to the EPA, to prevent mold growth.

A restoration company will remove water, take out materials that cannot be saved, dry the structure with air movers and dehumidifiers and log moisture readings. The Naperville water damage guide explains IICRC water categories, costs and how to choose a company.

Do I need a permit to rebuild in Lisle?

Check with the Village of Lisle. Its cost-share program itself requires a building permit for the sewer work, and rebuilding finished space generally needs one too.

Ask your contractor who pulls permits, and get it in writing.

Do you help with all of Lisle?
